Bangladesh made a strong style statement at Colombo Fashion Week Summer 2026, where more than 30 designers from different countries showed their work in Sri Lanka’s capital. The four-day event gave Bangladeshi designer Asad Sattar, founder and creative director of Ami Dhaka, a fresh stage to present his designs for the first time at the fashion week, while models Azim Uddula and Zarif Shabab also joined the runway. The show took place at Cinnamon Life, a major entertainment hub in Colombo, and featured collections that brought together many styles, fabrics, and creative voices. Sattar’s collection stood out for its use of katan, benarasi, pinnon, jamdani, and sequins, with each group of looks linked to a part of life. Blue represented birth, green showed growth, pink stood for blooming, and black reflected life and death. His lineup included pants, skirts, tops, coats, and sarees, blending traditional materials with modern shapes in a way that highlighted both craft and new ideas. Along with the Bangladeshi presence, the runway also featured designs from Canada, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and India, which made the event a wide meeting place for different fashion cultures. For the Bangladeshi participants, the week offered more than a runway moment. It created a chance to meet designers, models, and fashion professionals from other countries, exchange ideas, and see how clothing styles are shaped by local traditions and daily life. Azim Uddula noted that the sarong-and-coat style worn in Sri Lanka has a familiar feel to Bangladesh’s own lungi, showing how clothing can connect cultures in simple and meaningful ways. Events like this help young fashion talent grow beyond national borders and give traditional textiles new life on an international stage. They also show how Bangladeshi fashion can mix heritage and innovation in a way that feels current, confident, and ready for a wider audience. In that sense, the Colombo event was not just a showcase of clothes, but also a celebration of identity, craft, and creative exchange.
