UCB Holds Nationwide Financial Literacy Drive to Promote Safe Digital Banking

by Bangladesh in Focus

United Commercial Bank PLC marked Financial Literacy Day with a nationwide programme aimed at helping people use digital banking safely and with more confidence. The campaign ran at the bank’s head office and branches across all divisions, with a clear focus on building financial awareness in both cities and rural areas. This year’s theme, “Ensuring safe cashless transactions through financial literacy,” reflected the growing use of mobile and online banking in daily life and the need for users to understand how to protect themselves while making digital payments. Bank officials said the main goal was to share accurate information, improve public awareness and encourage secure use of modern banking tools. The programme was opened by Additional Managing Director Nabil Mustafizur Rahman and conducted by Senior Executive Vice President Shahbaj Talat. Rahman said digital transactions are rising quickly, which makes it more important for customers to know how to use banking services safely. He stressed that people should be able to send money, pay bills and manage accounts without fear of fraud or mistakes. UCB also used the occasion to outline its plans for the year, which include expanding digital banking services, increasing public awareness on cybersecurity and strengthening customer education. A major part of that plan is to reach rural and underserved communities, where access to modern banking tools is still limited for many people. The bank said financial literacy is not a one-time effort but an ongoing responsibility, and it plans to continue similar programmes so more people can take part in the digital economy with confidence. For many customers, especially those who are new to online services, simple guidance can make a big difference. Clear advice on passwords, safe transactions and fraud prevention can help families avoid loss and use financial services more wisely. UCB said it wants to keep building that knowledge across the country through future campaigns, training and outreach. The programme also showed how banks can play a larger role than just handling money. By teaching people how to use digital tools safely, banks can help support trust, inclusion and better access to modern financial services for more households and small businesses.
