Syngenta Bangladesh, together with local government partners, held a special programme in Charghat, Rajshahi, to recognize women farmers and support their health, nutrition and confidence. The event, arranged under the company’s SheShines initiative at Sardah Union Parishad, brought together women farmers, local leaders and government officials to highlight the growing role of rural women in agriculture and community life. Charghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jannatul Ferdous attended as chief guest, while agriculture extension officials, union parishad representatives, company leaders and health officials joined as special guests. Speakers said women farmers are a key part of Bangladesh’s farm sector and deserve more skills, support and recognition for the work they do every day. The programme included a health and nutrition awareness session led by Dr Tasnim Monira of Charghat Upazila Health Complex, helping participants learn more about basic care and healthy living. A free health camp was also arranged for the women farmers, giving them general health check-ups during the event. Organisers said the goal was not only to celebrate women, but also to create a practical space where they could receive useful services and feel respected for their contribution to farming. Syngenta said the SheShines initiative is meant to support inclusive growth, improve women’s access to income and markets, and strengthen rural communities through practical engagement. The company described itself as a science-based agri-technology firm working through a joint venture with the Government of Bangladesh and Syngenta AG of Switzerland. The event also showed how business groups, local officials and health workers can work together to support farmers at the village level. For many women in agriculture, such programmes can mean more than a single day of celebration. They can bring health advice, public recognition and a stronger sense that their work matters to the wider economy. In a country where women often do a large share of farm work but receive less attention, the Charghat event stood out as a simple but meaningful step toward inclusion, support and rural development.
