by Bangladesh in Focus

In a heartening celebration of rural success, six agricultural entrepreneurs from Naogaon were honored on June 22 for their outstanding contributions to farming, fisheries, and livestock. The event, held at the Hapnia branch of Sadar upazila, was organized by the non-governmental development organization Moushumi with support from the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). Abul Kalam Azad, the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), was the chief guest who handed out the awards. Dr. , the Upazila Livestock Officer, along with other important officials, also attended the event. Aminul Islam and Senior Fisheries Officers Baizid Alam and Nuruzzaman Roni, also attended the ceremony. The honored entrepreneurs were recognized for their innovative practices and sustainable approaches in agriculture. Their work has not only improved food production but also created jobs and inspired others in their communities. The organizers hope that this recognition will encourage more young people to take up farming as a career. One of the awardees, a young fish farmer, shared how he turned a small pond into a thriving aquaculture business using eco-friendly techniques. Another recipient, a woman livestock farmer, spoke about how she built a dairy farm that now supplies milk to local schools and markets. This celebration comes at a time when Bangladesh is focusing on modernizing its agriculture sector. With climate change and rising food demand, the country is looking for ways to make farming more efficient and sustainable. Events like this show that local innovation can play a big role in that effort. The awards also highlight the growing link between agriculture and education. Many of the entrepreneurs received training from local agricultural institutes and NGOs. Some are now mentoring students and helping them learn about smart farming techniques, such as organic composting and water-saving irrigation. Technology is also playing a part. Several of the awardees use mobile apps to track crop health, manage livestock, and connect with buyers. These tools are helping farmers make better decisions and earn more from their work. By honoring these entrepreneurs, Naogaon is sending a strong message: agriculture is not just about traditionโ€”itโ€™s about innovation, resilience, and opportunity. With continued support from organizations like PKSF and Moushumi, more rural communities can follow this path to success.
