Cox’s Bazar Airport is preparing to launch its first international flights by the end of July 2025. This development will make it Bangladesh’s fourth international airport and is expected to boost tourism and regional connectivity. Officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) confirmed that final preparations are nearly complete. One of the major upgrades is the extension of the airport’s runway into the Bay of Bengal, now reaching a total length of 10,700 feet. This makes it the longest runway in the country and allows the airport to handle narrow-body international aircraft with ease. In addition to the runway extension, a new terminal building is also under construction. If the terminal isn’t ready by the launch date, the airport will temporarily use its existing terminal facilities to operate limited international flights. Immigration and customs services have already been set up, and trained staff are ready for operations. A high-level coordination meeting led by CAAB Chairman Air Vice-Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan brought together representatives from Biman Bangladesh Airlines, customs, and immigration departments. During the meeting, it was decided that Biman would start planning flight routes to and from Cox’s Bazar beginning in July. Tourism experts and business leaders say that international air connectivity will be a major boost for the coastal town. The airport is expected to serve travelers from nearby countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, and China’s Yunnan province. Improved air travel options could turn Cox’s Bazar into a new center for beach and eco-tourism in the region. CAAB is conducting final checks on runway lighting systems, embankments, and terminal operations. These inspections are being done in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to ensure that all safety and international standards are met before takeoff. The airport’s upgraded facilities are also expected to support emergency and disaster-relief flights when needed. Officials are optimistic that this development will serve multiple purposes: improving tourism, supporting trade, and providing quicker access during emergencies. While the last phases of the expansion are in progress, travelers should anticipate slight alterations to the schedules of domestic flights. However, the long-term benefits are expected to outweigh any temporary inconvenience. With its natural beauty and now easier access, Cox’s Bazar is ready to welcome more visitors from around the world. The launch of international flights is not just a milestone for the airport it’s a major step forward for the region’s economy and connectivity.
