Bangladesh is embracing new ways to grow food, and drones are leading the charge! Imagine small flying robots, or drones, helping farmers know exactly what their crops need. This exciting change is making farming better and more efficient across the country, from the green fields of Barishal to the rich lands of Bogura. For a long time, farming has relied on people checking fields by hand. This can be hard work and sometimes it’s tough to see problems early. But now, drones are changing that. They have special cameras and sensors that can see things we can’t. These smart eyes in the sky can check how much water the soil has, find sick plants before they look sick to us, and even tell farmers if their plants need more food (nutrients). Itโs like giving farmers superpowers to understand their land better. In 2024, the government’s Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) worked with a big group called the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to try out drones and satellite pictures. More than 300 farming helpers learned how to use these new tools. They learned to read the pictures from the sky to spot things like dry spots, tiny bugs, and even areas where floods might have hurt crops. This helps farmers get help and money faster after bad weather. Big organizations like the World Bank are also helping. They have a plan to help farmers use smart tools, and many have already started using drones. Farmers who used these smart tools are seeing amazing results. Some are growing 15% more food, and some even 60% more, depending on what they grow and where they live. This means more food for everyone and more money for farmers! Even schools and research centers are getting involved. Places like Bangladesh Agricultural University are teaching students about drone technology. They are also working to make drones even smarter, so they can predict when bugs might attack plants and help farmers get insurance for their crops. The best part is that drones are not just helping farmers grow more. They are also good for our environment. Because drones can put just the right amount of medicine on plants, less of it gets into our rivers and less harmful fumes go into the air. This helps keep our water clean and our air fresh. Drones also save time and money because they can do work much faster than people, especially when the sun is hot or after a storm. This new technology is truly helping Bangladesh grow stronger, smarter, and greener.
