Berger Award Returns to Lift Bangladesh Interior Design Talent

by Bangladesh in Focus

Berger Paints Bangladesh has launched the second edition of the Berger Award for Interior Design to celebrate fresh ideas and good practice in decorating and planning indoor spaces, and the announcement drew together well known architects and young designers who want to show how design can make daily life better. The award covers two clear categories, professional and amateur, so both experienced firms and first time creators can enter and compete on fair ground. Organisers will choose six winners in total and each winner will receive Tk1 lakh along with a certificate and a trophy, giving practical support and recognition that can help careers and small firms grow. A panel of respected experts will judge the entries, with Ar. Jalal Ahmed serving as adviser and Ar. Md Ehsan Khan acting as jury chair, and other jury members include Ar. Tanya Karim, Ar. Bayejid Mahbub Khondker, Ar. Mohammed Emran Hossain and the artist Dhali Al Mamun, which means the selection will draw on a wide range of design and artistic experience. At the launch event many well known voices from the design community praised the idea and said the award encourages quality, cleaner design thinking and sustainable materials, while the organiser described the prize as a way to push local work toward international standards. Leaders from Berger stressed that the award is practical as well as symbolic: winners will gain money that can be used for tools, study or small projects, and the visibility that comes with the prize can open doors to clients and workshops. Organisers also plan to use the award to promote modern aesthetics and better use of materials so that rooms, offices and public spaces can become healthier and more useful for the people who use them every day. Early career entrants can learn from the jury and from public exposure, and professionals can use the platform to showcase refined work and new methods that save cost and energy. The event is aimed at building a steady culture of design in the country, where training, public conversation and regular prizes help raise overall quality and give clear routes for young people to enter the field. Entries and more information will be available through Berger Paints’ official channels, and organisers encouraged teachers, students and small studios to take part so the contest can spot real talent from different parts of the country. Judges and company leaders said the award is meant to be a long term push, one that grows networks, helps small firms bid for larger work, and shows how good design can improve lives in simple, everyday ways. Winners will also gain opportunities to join workshops, find mentors, and connect with suppliers and clients and partners.
