In a significant achievement for higher education in Bangladesh, Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has been recognized as the top public university in the country by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Ranking 2025. This impressive ranking highlights GAU’s strong commitment to not only academic excellence but also its active role in addressing global challenges, bringing positive recognition to Bangladesh’s contributions to sustainable development. The Times Higher Education Impact Ranking is a highly respected global assessment, evaluating higher education institutions based on their dedication and activities related to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals cover a wide range of critical global issues, from ending poverty and hunger to promoting good health, quality education, clean energy, and environmental protection. For 2025, THE assessed 2,526 universities from 130 countries, making GAU’s achievement particularly noteworthy. Globally, GAU secured a commendable position within the 801–1000 band, showcasing its impact on an international scale. This latest recognition is not GAU’s first. The university has consistently demonstrated its strength in various international assessments. Earlier in January 2025, GAU was celebrated as the best university in Bangladesh in the Times Higher Education ‘World University Subject Ranking-2025’. Furthermore, it earned the top spot among all public and private universities in Bangladesh in the crucial Life Sciences category, a field vital to agricultural innovation and public health. GAU also led all other agricultural universities in the country in THE Asia Ranking 2025 and was included in the esteemed list of the world’s top 300 innovative universities in the 2024 URI ranking. Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman, who serves as the Vice-Chancellor of GAU, shared his great pride in these achievements.
