Bangladesh Leather Goods Industry Targets Korean Fashion Market Through High-Value Partnership Push

by Bangladesh in Focus

Bangladesh’s leather industry is looking to South Korea as a major growth market, and a recent seminar in Seoul showed how big that opportunity could be for exporters, investors, and young workers. At the event, senior leaders from the Korea Importers Association, well-known Korean brands, and a visiting business delegation from Bangladesh came together to discuss how high quality leather goods and footwear from Bangladesh can match the needs of Korea’s fashion-conscious youth. Executive vice-president of the Korea Importers Association Kwon Ki-chang praised the growing reputation of Bangladeshi leather products, saying that their design, finish, and value make them a strong choice for shoppers who care about both style and budget. He also pointed out that as more Korean young people look for new brands and fresh designs, there is space on store shelves for bags, shoes, and accessories from Bangladesh if suppliers can build long-term partnerships and keep up steady quality. The seminar, titled “Bangladesh: Your New High-Value Partner of Quality Leather Goods and Footwear”, brought together about thirty leading Korean importers and manufacturing companies along with a seven-member team from the Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh, led by its president Syed Nasim Manzur. Bangladesh’s ambassador in Seoul, Toufiq Islam Shatil, told the audience that the two countries already enjoy a strong relationship in trade and investment and that leather goods and footwear have become one of the most important export links between them. He expressed confidence that closer cooperation, more business visits, and regular sharing of market information would help Korean buyers feel even more comfortable choosing Bangladeshi suppliers for their long-term plans. At the seminar, Youngone Corporation president Minsuhk Lee shared his company’s long experience of doing business in Bangladesh, including work in export processing zones, to show how global brands can succeed by using the country as a production base. His story underlined how stable manufacturing, skilled workers, and improved infrastructure in Bangladesh can support large orders with good quality control. In the technical session, Syed Nasim Manzur presented key facts about the leather industry, including factory capacity, investment in modern machines, strong focus on compliance and worker safety, and the growing number of foreign partners who have already found success there. He also highlighted Bangladesh’s young population and strategic location close to major Asian markets, explaining that these strengths make it easier to ship finished products quickly and respond to changing fashion trends. Participants at the seminar agreed that with clear branding, better market research, and more direct contact between companies, Bangladesh can become a trusted high-value partner for Korea’s leather and footwear market, creating new jobs at home while giving Korean shoppers more choice and better prices in future.
