Bangladesh Students Win Three Gold Medals at Asia-Pacific AI Olympiad

Bangladesh has achieved an outstanding result at the first Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, winning three gold medals and earning the highest number of golds among all participating countries. The competition brought together 129 students from 18 nations, including China, Russia, Singapore, Japan, and Iran. Only ten gold medals were awarded, and Bangladeshi students secured three of them. This strong performance shows that young learners in Bangladesh can compete at a high international level in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The gold medallists were Labib Shahriar, Md Shaidozzaman Araf, and Tridib Roy Arjo. They finished fourth, fifth, and ninth in the final rankings. Four other members of the eight-person national team received honourable mentions, while another student also represented Bangladesh. The result reflects both individual talent and the careful preparation provided through the national selection process. The competition lasted six hours and was held online under live video supervision and screen recording. Students solved four machine learning challenges covering different types of real-world problems. These tasks required more than memorising computer terms. Participants needed logical thinking, mathematics, coding ability, data analysis, and the patience to test ideas under pressure. The national team was chosen through several stages. Students first joined local qualifying rounds, followed by a national competition and a focused selection camp. This step-by-step process helped organisers identify strong candidates and prepare them for the international event. It also gave more students a chance to explore AI, even if they did not reach the final team. The achievement can inspire schools and colleges to create coding clubs, AI workshops, and problem-solving activities. Teachers may also use the success to encourage students who enjoy mathematics, science, and technology. Access to computers, reliable internet, mentors, and practice materials will be important so talented learners from different regions can participate. Artificial intelligence is already being used in health, farming, education, transport, banking, and business. Students who build these skills early may later develop tools that solve local problems and create new jobs. However, good AI education should also teach fairness, safety, privacy, and responsible use. Winning medals is a proud result, but its wider value will come from building a lasting learning system. Regular competitions, teacher training, university support, and industry partnerships can help more students grow. The three gold medals show what is possible when talent receives structured guidance and meaningful challenges. Bangladesh’s young competitors have not only earned international recognition; they have also given other students a clear reason to believe that advanced technology skills can be learned, practised, and mastered. Their success may also encourage families to support technology education and show younger students that international achievement is truly possible through steady practice, teamwork, and access to good mentors.
