In a significant step to revolutionize engineering education in Bangladesh, the BSRM School of Engineering has been launched by BRAC University in partnership with the BSRM Group of Companies. The launch event, held on April 30, 2025, at BRAC University’s Merul Badda campus, marked the beginning of a unique academia-industry collaboration aimed at fostering innovation and sustainability in technical education. This partnership is designed to embed innovation, ethics, and societal responsibility into the core of engineering education. By integrating real-world industry practices with academic curricula, the BSRM School of Engineering aims to prepare a new generation of engineers equipped to address the challenges of a rapidly evolving technological landscape. The school’s initiatives include funding advanced research projects, establishing state-of-the-art laboratories, and offering scholarships to meritorious students, particularly those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. These efforts are intended to create an inclusive environment that nurtures talent and promotes equal opportunities for all aspiring engineers. During the opening event, Alihussain Akberali, the Chairman of BSRM, highlighted how important it is for businesses to work together with schools and universities to positively influence society. He encouraged students to contribute their knowledge and energy to national development, stating, “Stay here, work here, and build here. Your ideas, energy, and knowledge are valuable here.” Tamara Hasan Abed, the Chairperson of BRAC University’s Board of Trustees, emphasized the school’s dedication to creating a space that celebrates curiosity, values diversity, and supports every student. believes they can drive positive change. She stated, “As we open the BSRM School of Engineering today, we emphasize that education should promote dignity, justice, and opportunity.” Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, the Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, shared his hope that this partnership can inspire similar efforts in the global South. He stated, “This partnership is an example for Bangladesh and, hopefully, for the global South. The partnership between BRAC and BRAC University illustrates that BSRM prioritizes not just business efforts but also the safety and well-being of people. The BSRM School of Engineering represents a significant step forward in aligning engineering education with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. By combining academic rigor with practical industry experience, the school aims to produce engineers who are not only technically proficient but also socially responsible and innovative thinkers.”
