Bangladesh’s Apparel Exports to US Rise Sharply in 2025

by Bangladesh in Focus

Bangladesh’s manufacturing sector has recorded a major win with its apparel exports to the United States growing by an impressive 26.64% in the first quarter of 2025. According to data published by the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) under the US Department of Commerce, the country earned $2.22 billion from apparel exports to the US By March 2025, exports of ready-made garments reached $3.45 billion, showing an increase of 12.4% from March of the previous year. This growth is not only substantial in percentage terms but also meaningful in global trade dynamics. Bangladesh has surpassed rivals like China, India, and Vietnam when it comes to the growth of exports to the US clothing market. Industry experts believe that the country’s focus on sustainable production, high-quality products, and competitive pricing are key reasons behind this remarkable performance. The surge is especially impressive given the global apparel market’s sluggish pace due to inflation and reduced consumer spending in key Western economies. While many countries are seeing stagnant or negative growth in apparel exports, Bangladesh is defying the trend through strategic reforms and adaptability. A key factor behind this success is the increased adoption of green manufacturing practices by Bangladeshi garment factories. As global buyers become more conscious about environmental and social standards, Bangladesh’s apparel industry has responded by investing in LEED-certified green factories, energy-efficient production lines, and improved labor compliance making it a reliable and ethical sourcing destination.Furthermore, Bangladesh is diversifying its product base. Instead of focusing only on low-cost, basic apparel, manufacturers are moving into value-added products such as sportswear, outerwear, and technical garments. This shift has opened up higher-paying markets and strengthened relationships with premium global brands. The benefits of this growth ripple through the economy. The ready-made garment (RMG) sector employs over four million workers, most of whom are women. Increased export earnings mean better job security, more income for workers, and broader economic development in rural areas. With continued government support, infrastructure development, and digital transformation, industry leaders are optimistic that Bangladesh’s manufacturing sector will maintain this growth trajectory throughout 2025 and beyond. This export boom is a reminder that with the right blend of innovation, sustainability, and skilled labor, Bangladesh can continue to rise as a global manufacturing powerhouse.
