Bangladesh has received high praise from SpaceX for its role in facilitating the launch of Starlink services in the country. Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink Business Operations at SpaceX, commended the government for its efficient coordination and swift decision-making during the official launching ceremony in Dhaka. The event marked a milestone in Bangladesh’s push to improve internet connectivity across its most remote and underserved regions. Starlink, operated by Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX, uses a constellation of low-earth orbit satellites to deliver high-speed internet anywhere in the world — even in areas where traditional internet infrastructure is limited or unavailable. Dreyer pointed out that Bangladesh’s speedy approval process and teamwork were essential in getting Starlink to the market swiftly. She noted that the country demonstrated a remarkable commitment to technological innovation and digital inclusion. With the arrival of Starlink, Bangladesh aims to bridge the digital divide, especially in rural, coastal, and hilly areas where internet access has long been a challenge. Government officials confirmed that the service will be particularly beneficial for education, healthcare, disaster response, and small business operations in remote regions. Posts and Telecommunications Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak emphasized that the government is working to ensure all citizens can benefit from the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He stated that Starlink’s launch aligns with the nation’s Smart Bangladesh vision, aiming for universal digital access and stronger infrastructure by 2041. The collaboration between SpaceX and Bangladesh represents more than just a technological advancement—it signals a future where public-private partnerships play a critical role in solving connectivity challenges. Starlink’s capacity to provide up to 220 Mbps speeds with low latency will allow businesses and institutions in rural zones to operate more efficiently, unlocking new economic opportunities. Already, field tests have demonstrated successful connectivity in several challenging areas of Bangladesh. The deployment of Starlink also complements the country’s broader goals under the Digital Bangladesh initiative, including promoting innovation, expanding e-governance, and supporting entrepreneurship. As global interest in satellite internet grows, Bangladesh’s swift facilitation of the Starlink rollout positions it as a proactive and forward-looking country in terms of embracing emerging technologies. The government’s ability to align quickly with a global tech leader like SpaceX shows its commitment to ensuring that all Bangladeshis, regardless of location, have access to reliable internet.
