How Agriculture is Driving Bangladesh’s Bright Future: Central Bank Governor Shares Key

by Bangladesh in Focus

At a lively gathering in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur told nearly 300 agricultural entrepreneurs that farming is the engine of the nation’s progress, and he urged support for farmers to keep that engine running. He said loans for farming do more than raise crop yields; they fuel better roads, schools and steady household incomes that improve village life. The governor stressed that Bangladesh’s long success is rooted in its land and that future growth will rely on smart farming, easy loan access, and closer banking services in rural areas. He noted that digital tools can help farmers manage money, get loans faster and sell their produce with less trouble. Mansur warned that without enough help, farm production and market links could suffer, but with the right support rural communities can thrive and add more to the national economy. The event, organized by United Commercial Bank, aimed to boost skills and confidence among farm entrepreneurs and show how banks and growers can work together for steady gains. UCB chairman Sharif Zahir spoke about promoting green and lasting farming methods that help the environment while raising incomes, and he said banks should help entrepreneurs build strong businesses. Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, the bank’s managing director and CEO, added that the bank’s job goes beyond lending; it includes training, advice and long-term support so small businesses can stand on their own feet. Other speakers from Bangladesh Bank, agricultural extension services, livestock and fisheries departments, and a farming innovation project shared practical tips. They discussed ways to improve animal care, boost fish farming, use better seeds and save water with simple tools. Farmers who had built small but successful operations told their stories to show how smart choices can turn tiny plots into steady businesses. The talks highlighted the value of local homestays, market links and simple tech that cut costs and protect the land for future generations. Participants agreed that every well-used loan and every new skill can create jobs and help whole villages. The event closed with plans to train more local guides, improve market connections and expand digital banking for farmers. The message was clear: when banks, government groups and farmers work together, agriculture can sustain food supplies, build local wealth and move the country forward. With steady support, farmers will keep feeding families and growing the nation’s prosperity. Organizers will hold workshops and loan clinics so farmers can ask questions and sign up, and they will share success stories to inspire others widely.
