Bangladeshi youth are poised to make a major impact in the global ICT industry, thanks to strong efforts in education and innovation. Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid, recently shared this optimistic view at a seminar focused on digital literacy and technology training. During a seminar that took place on June 15 at the BRUR campus, Dr. Rashid emphasized that Bangladeshi youths are not just learning technology they are mastering it. He said, “Our students are entering the job market with a mindset to compete globally. With proper training and support, they will secure top positions in the ICT sector both at home and abroad.” The seminar, titled “ICT Career Prospects for Youth in Smart Bangladesh”, brought together educators, students, and industry professionals to explore how digital skills can open new doors for the country’s youth. It was organized in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and featured panel discussions, project showcases, and inspirational talks. Dr. Rashid highlighted the role of the government and academic institutions in equipping students with the right tools for a digital future. He praised the “Smart Bangladesh” initiative, which aims to create a digitally inclusive society by 2041. “Universities like ours are ready to contribute to Smart Bangladesh by making students job-ready in fields like programming, cybersecurity, and AI,” he added. Students attending the event shared their excitement about the opportunities in the ICT sector. Many are already building mobile apps, launching small startups, and taking online certifications in coding and data science. A final-year student, Meherun Nesa, said, “It feels great to know that we are getting closer to competing with top tech talent from around the world.” A major point from the seminar was the importance of building closer connections between universities and the ICT sector. Participants called for more internship opportunities, joint research, and tech incubators on university campuses. With growing access to training, supportive policies, and motivated young minds, the future of Bangladesh’s ICT sector looks promising. As Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rashid concluded, “The next generation of tech leaders could very well come from Rangpur or anywhere in Bangladesh if we stay on this path.”
