Bangladesh has taken a significant step toward improving its workforce skills by securing a $150 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) aimed at enhancing the country’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. This new funding supports the “TVET Teachers for the Future Program,” which aligns with the government’s Integrated TVET Development Action Plan. The program’s primary goal is to upgrade the quality of TVET education by focusing on five key technology clusters: mechanical, electronics and electrical, information and communication technology, civil, and food and agriculture sectors. By targeting these industries, the initiative aims to align skills training with national economic priorities, preparing students for job markets that are rapidly evolving due to technological and industrial changes. A key focus of the program is improving the quality of teaching. Over 10,000 new and existing TVET teachers across Bangladesh will receive advanced training to enhance both their technical expertise and pedagogical methods. This effort will improve the quality of instruction, making education more relevant and effective for students. It is expected to positively impact more than 250,000 students nationwide, increasing their employability and ability to contribute productively to the economy. The program also seeks to establish a sustainable, nationwide system for continuous professional development for TVET teachers, ensuring that improvements in teaching standards are maintained over time. This is crucial for adapting to changing technology trends and labor market needs. The government of Bangladesh views this initiative as an essential part of its broader strategy to promote economic diversification, job creation, poverty reduction, and social inclusion. Developing a skilled workforce through improved vocational training will support growth in multiple industries and sectors, strengthening the country’s competitiveness on a global scale. The loan agreement was signed by Md. In Dhaka, a formal ceremony took place with Shahriar Kader Siddiky, who is the Secretary of the Economic Relations Division, and Hoe Yun Jeong, the Country Director for ADB in Bangladesh.
