Magura hosted the “Jute Farmers’ Assembly–2025” on June 18, bringing together jute growers, district officials, and agriculture experts. The District Administration and the Department of Jute worked together to organize the assembly. Farmers from various upazilas participated in the event, sharing challenges, successes, and future plans to boost jute production. The meeting began with Md. Ohidul Islam, the Deputy Commissioner of Magura, highlighted the government’s dedication to enhancing jute production. He noted that modern technology, training, and official support are being prioritized to help farmers increase yields and income. Special guest Md. Kamal Uddin, Assistant Director of the Department of Jute, highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure fair pricing. He reassured farmers that field-level officials are working closely with them, offering guidance and direct assistance to improve livelihoods. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, the Jute Development Officer for Magura, encouraged farmers to focus on timely cultivation and proper care. He shared that better practices—such as the use of quality seeds and correct plant spacing—can significantly boost jute fiber production. Syed Alauddin, the Chief Inspector at the Jute Department in Magura, expressed his desire to bring back jute as the “golden fiber” of Bangladesh. He talked about ideas to increase outreach activities, aiming to reach a larger audience. farmers can benefit from improved farming techniques. Prokash Chandra Sarkar, who serves as the Additional Deputy Director at the Department of Agricultural Extension, emphasized the importance of contemporary farming techniques. He urged farmers to adopt practices like ribbon-retting and mechanized harvesting to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hasibul Hasan assured participants that the administration would continue to provide ground-level support, ensuring that resources like seeds, fertilizers, and equipment reach farmers on time. The assembly was facilitated by Ms. Sharmin Akter, Assistant Commissioner of Magura District. By focusing on both production and fiber-quality enhancement, the program aims to support farmers in a sustainable, practical way.
