The Bangabandhu Bridge, often referred to as the Jamuna Bridge, is undergoing thrilling transformations that link both parts of Bangladesh.You might hear that the old railway tracks are being taken off the bridge, and while this sounds like something is ending, it’s actually a big step towards a more modern and efficient railway system for our country! This important work is paving the way for better connections and faster journeys across Bangladesh. For many years, the Bangabandhu Bridge has served us well, carrying both cars and trains. However, the railway part of the bridge was a single track, meaning trains had to wait for each other to cross. They also had to go very slowly, and they couldn’t carry super heavy loads. To meet the needs of a growing Bangladesh and to make train travel much better, a brand-new, dedicated railway bridge is nearing completion right next to the old one. This new bridge is a symbol of progress and a huge upgrade for our transport network. Old railway tracks are being taken away from the Bangabandhu Bridge since the impressive Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Railway Bridge is nearly finished. This new bridge showcases incredible engineering! It features a double track, which means trains can travel in both directions at the same time without having to wait. What’s more, trains will be able to cross at much higher speeds, up to 120 kilometers per hour, making journeys quicker and more enjoyable for passengers. The new bridge is also built to handle heavier cargo, which will be a huge boost for businesses and trade across the country. This massive project, built with support from the Government of Bangladesh and friends like the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is set to transform railway communication. Once fully operational, the new bridge will greatly reduce travel times between the eastern and western parts of Bangladesh. This means people can visit family and friends faster, and goods can reach markets more quickly, which helps our economy grow. It also strengthens Bangladesh’s connections with neighboring countries, making it easier to trade and travel across borders. So, while the old tracks are being taken away, itโs not an end, but a new beginning.
