Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC has earned the prestigious Green Factory Award 2025, recognizing its outstanding efforts in environmentally friendly manufacturing. The award, presented on June 24 at Dhaka’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, shines a positive spotlight on the electrical and electronics sector in Bangladesh. At the ceremony, Brigadier General (Retd) M. Sakhawat Hussain, advisor to the Ministries of Labour & Employment and Shipping, handed the award to Walton’s Additional Managing Director, Md. Yusuf Ali. Also present were senior officials including Adilur Rahman Khan, advisor to the Ministries of Industries and Housing & Public Works, and AHM Shafiquzzaman, Secretary of Labour & Employment. Yusuf Ali expressed deep gratitude on behalf of Walton, emphasizing the company’s continued commitment to green manufacturing. He highlighted Walton’s integration of eco-friendly, energy-efficient machinery in the production of home appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, televisions, washing machines, and compressors. This year, Walton furthered its sustainable mission by launching a rooftop solar project and the country’s largest floating solar power plant with a capacity of one megawatt. In addition, the company has implemented recycling programs for plastic and metal waste at its factories. These efforts are aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and demonstrate Walton’s “Goal Zero” vision—aiming for zero harm to people, property, and the environment, alongside a net-zero carbon footprint. This achievement not only enhances Walton’s reputation within the core sector of manufacturing but also connects to the sector of energy by showcasing how renewable power and sustainable design can work hand in hand. In a rapidly developing country like Bangladesh, these twin strengths are essential. A green manufacturing framework encourages innovation, helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and supports the transition to cleaner energy. Importantly, Walton’s success sets a benchmark for manufacturers operating in Bangladesh’s trade and industrial landscape. The broader Green Factory Award program honored 30 factories across 16 different sectors this year, including firms from textiles, food, tea, shipbuilding, jute, and pharmaceuticals. But Walton led in the electrical and electronics field with its forward-thinking environmental practices. For the public, this win means better products made in safer and cleaner plants. For the industry, it shows how regulation and innovation can combine to support a sustainable economy. It proves that renewable energy and recycling initiatives are not just idealistic—they translate into real-world impact and build resilience in industries that power everyday life. As Walton Hi-Tech celebrates this well-deserved achievement, the award signals a broader shift in Bangladesh. When major manufacturers embrace sustainability, they light the way forward—creating healthier workplaces, reducing pollution, and ensuring a more responsible future for generations to come.
